Hello. My name is
Paige Braddock and I do a daily online comic titled, Jane's World.
For the past twelve years I've been working as a visual journalist for a string of newspapers in the east, including The Chicago Tribune and The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution. As a colleague of mine once said, Journalism is a field that prepares you for many things, the most common of which is debtor's prison. If you are predisposed to caffeine addiction, natural disasters, bomb threats, fashion
incompetence and sleeping late, then Journalism is the field for you.
While journalism can be a respectable career, it wasn't my ultimate goal. And even though I was successful on this career path, I spent my free time pining away for what I really wanted to do... comics. While I spent my days working in a newsroom filled with slackers and gossip mongers, I spent my nights toiling away on comics.
I have spent my whole life working on comic strip concepts, beginning with my youth in the rural South, where there isn't much to do except doodle, and ending in northern California, where I now have the luxury of doing comics almost full-time. Over the years, I created a long line of characters who lived out their short, humorous lives in four to six square panels. Beginning with a clumsy super hero named, Captain Lighting, and ending with a goofy cowboy named, Bart Winkle.
It wasn't until 1991, while working in Chicago, that I created Jane. Finally, a character that actually took on a life of her own and has been appearing on the Web, along with her motley crew of friends, ever since.
I hope you visit Jane's World and that when you get there you find a whimsical destination that you feel compelled to return to often. Enjoy.
