Hey, Paige! Lay off the paramedics!
(tee hee) Or maybe the chick with the paddles was one of those scary folks with the scanner, who show up and haunt you at (it seems like) every scene. Wouldn't it be funny if the real paramedics showed up and hauled Jane off to the hospital to treat her for electrical burns.....and if Ms Wannabe the fake medic showed up at every emergency call henceforth. (Fake firefighter, fake cop, fake hazardous material handler in the silver suit...)
I dunno. Just suggesting an alternative to offending all the beautiful dyke medics out there.
Peace,
Kirsten

Hi Paige,
I'm pretty sure I haven't actually emailed you since
Janesworld moved to comics.com, although I've thought about
it numerous times. Just wanted to say that its fantastic
you're getting more exposure and hopefully this will lead to
bigger and better things!
Re the story line, I just got back from a few weeks away
from a computer (will wonders never cease) and read the
latest strips with great interest - I do love Alexa, and
especially the way today's ended - "who's natalie?" heh
heh heh.
Of course I'm looking forward to seeing Sarah back
again. You haven't cut her out have you?! Must be
difficult giving all the characters a run though. Having
never attempted _anything_ like a comic, I'm just guessing
here :)
All the best,

Hi Paige, I just stumbled onto your strip as a result of an e-mail from comics.com.
Wonderful strip. I wish our paper would carry it. Until then I'll read the e-version. Thanks. Pat

Saw the blurb about this in the FoL newsletter, thought I'd check it out. Love the art, characters seem cool, although having not witnessed the chimp conversion, possibly a bit bizarre, but in a good way.
best of luck.

Hi Paige:
I love how you humourously accentuate the irritating pretense of society that has contributed to the downfall of REAL coffeehouses. In the early 80's those coffeehouses in Cambridge were a haven for lesbians, foreign students and artists who were not accepted by the norm. Fifteen years later those irritating fucks (who were once content to drink Maxwell House) started to frequent those places wanting their decaf latte whippucinos. One of these days I am going to ask one of them if they remember eating Chef Boyardee and Mrs Pauls fishsticks. It's annoying to be Italian and when these yuppies try to tell me what Polenta is. I love correcting them when I reveal to that it's the Italian-American form of gravy and grits!

LOVE the strip today. I can totally relate. I keep meeting decaf soy chai
lattes, and all I want is a cup of Maxwell House, cream and sugar totally
optional.

I enjoy your comic. Is there any possibility that we'll see women kissing
in the future?
What about less clothes for the cuter women?

Hi,
Serendipity led me to "Jane's World" for the first time yesterday on the
comics.com site -- I was scrolling the list of strip titles and was
intrigued because Jane is my girlfriend's name. I've enjoyed all of the
strips that are posted.
Your bio says that "Jane's World" runs on the web. Is it web-only, or is
it syndicated to print outlets as well? What sites is it on in addition
to comics.com?
I am a writer/illustrator/graphic designer (the design work is presently
paying the rent), and have been developing strip ideas. I was very
heartened and impressed to find a syndicated strip featuring lesbian
characters (that is, in addition to Alison Bechdel's work, which I
greatly admire). Has it been hard to syndicate the strip?
Now that I've found "Jane's World", I'm looking forward to keeping up
with her escapades.
Cheers,
Wesla

Best regards, Paige Braddock.
Thank you for the reply. It is very interesting
that your father was a Forestry Service man. My
father, a MSG in WWII went to work for the
forestry service after the War. He than moved
laterally to the Department of Agriculture, where
he worked until he was medically retired many
years later. I have great respect for the
environment, and I agree that some areas should
be protected. But that does not mean leaving them
untouched by human hands. Drilling an oil well
through the tundra (which my father had intimate
knowledge of) will not destroy the arctic. In
fact, it would disturb only a very small area.
With modern drilling methods, very little damage
will be done, and it may even be possible to
drill at an angle from outside the protected
region.
And to top everything else off, much old growth
timber has been destroyed by wildfires which were
far worse than they should have been because the
Forestry Service had overprotected woodlands from
the fires that nurned shrub and new growth but
left the old growth healthy and with more growing
room. It is a great branch of the government, but
like all the other branches, they can really mess
things up. As a retired military man, I can tell
you, there was a saying, "There is a right way
and a wrong way for everything, or even worse,
the Army way." And it would often have
"government" substituted for "army".
We live in what may very well be the greatest and
most free country in the world, but I despise the
rich, 2-faced "liberals" like Rosie and Ted
Turner, who make more in a day than I have made
in my entire life and who want the "downtrodden"
to be aided while trampling on my rights.
Streissan even wants to start a broadcast company
that will exclude conservatives. Talk about
trampling freedom of speech. Especially since
they already have ABC, NBC, and CBS.
Sorry. I am getting a little worked up, but I
wanted you to know where I was coming from.
Best of luck, and God be with you,
Bruce

Great article, Paige. I emailed Jay and told him so too. I have my fingers
crossed that Jane will gain rapid steady readership in the United Media way.

Subject: Waiting for the Big Move
Hey Paige! I've been so busy I haven't had time to let you know how much
I'm looking forward to Jane's World moving in on the Big Time (it won't
actually fully arrive til you get syndicated in print -- OK, I'm a
traditionalist -- but comics.con isn't shabby at all!)
I'm just wondering why in the world they're starting the strip on a
TUESDAY instead of the traditional Monday or Sunday. Guess everything is
skewed in cyberspace.
I still wanna know more about the prospects for newspaper syndication.
Jay's column indicates they're going to see how newspaper editors respond
to it on the web -- but I don't know how they plan to measure that. No one
from the syndicate has even ever asked me if I look at comics.com. Oh well,
maybe they're waiting for a groundswell of public opinion -- which Jane is
fully capable of stirring up!
Have I told you how much I think the strip has improved in the past year?
Your pacing, your story-telling, your ability to make the most of ''quiet
moments'' or the little incidents of life and weave them into your
storyline. Your work has just gotten much better since you left the AJC.
(I'm sure there's no connection there! LOL)..
Anyway, hope everything ELSE is going as well as Jane is right now. Let
me know how you are.

Hi, Paige,
Just reading the message boards over at Strangers in Paradise.com, and Terry
Moore plugged your work very nicely. Made me want to stop over and check
out
"Jane's World".
I hope the Jane Mart has comics and collections of your work... definitely
interested when you re-open the store.
And, you went to the University of Tennessee?? Cool. I'm originally from

fan of yours already.

I have followed the lives of Jane and her uh, friends since I stumbled
on the site by accident well over a year ago. As social commentary the
strip is good, as entertainment it is great, as both, it has become a
must read for me every day (at least at work, where I can get to the
computer).
I know that when people begin to see your strip in more newspapers they
will assume you are an "overnight" success thing. I for one

I read your note on joining United Features Syndicate! I'm very impressed
and amazed - I never thought that any of the mainstream syndicates would
take on a gay-centric strip. I may have missed something but I don't think
any of them have one yet. I do hope that they don't stick you with any
really odious restrictions of content.
I 'found' your strip recently on a random browsing trip, and promptly sat
down to spend the night reading all the archives - took almost two full days
(I had a weekend). I really enjoyed it and am adding you to my 'regularly

remuneration (sp?) for your work.

First off, I love "Jane's World". It is one of the few sites I visit

How sad, then, that the strips for 9/6 and 9/7 are the same....
I hope it was because you took Monday off for a holiday.... but a

of me hopes there's another strip that just hasn't been uploaded to the
site &
I'll have a treat soon.

Remember my comment about Jane maybe getting deeper that kinda started

Thanks for JanesWorld!

First, I would like to say that I LOVE your strip. I've added it to my
list

about
Being young, and finding out you're different can have it's rough
moments.
Just something to keep in mind, but a younger character may add a new
dimension to the strip. Regardless, your cartoon gave me the
realization
that being gay didn't mean giving up a normal life.
Just one final thought - I'm a soccer player, and felt you made Mia seem
like the typical girl jock. We're not all high on our sport and air

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy Jane's World. A long time ago, I was turned off to comic strips when everyone I enjoyed reading retired, feeling like they couldn't do any more good work in the comic strip format. All that was left was mass-merchandised, poorly drawn, and generally unfunny strips (in my opinion). Newspapers in my area were unwilling to carry strips that pushed the envelope.
Your strip is a refreshing change of pace, and I often find myself laughing out loud. Constantly, my wife will poke her head in my studio and ask what is so funny. Like me, she finds your writing to be a delightful pause in the day.
I became aware of Jane's World when you visited SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), and wanted to let you know how much I appreciated it. Comics on the web provide a nice outlet for creative ideas that syndicates are reluctant to touch. I hope someday to see Jane in the paper, but I feel like something would be lost. By the way, thanks for adding color on 5/14's strip. Again, you proved there are things you can do on the web that you just can't accomplish in syndication.
Thanks for the laughs,
Jerry

Oh Paige, I do love your strip. I stumbled across "Jane's World" via
the online version of my local paper (which I never expected to carry
or link to a pro-gay strip, but that's beside the point). What can I
say? I'm hooked. I read through about a year and a half of archived
strips at one go, and now I tune in religiously three times a week.
Poor Alexa! I think Sarah owes her a big apology (and a present
wouldn't hurt) for so much misdirected animosity and general bad
karma. That kid has enough challenges to her sense of self and
self-worth right now.
You know what I'd like to see? Jane's World greeting cards. Any
chance of that?

Paige,
I just had to write to tell you how much I've liked the last few weeks of Jane's World! I've laughed out loud several times, the most recent time being when Jane found out that her sister came out to her daughter. That was truly funny, in that bittersweet, true to-life way. For me, that's one thing that makes your comic better than so many others, the belly laughs really mean something, it's not just "funny".
I might be treading on sacred ground here, but I'd like to tell you what I'd like to read in the next few strips... I see Jane as being this deep, experienced, world weary "not quite-sage, but close enough for our times" kind of person. I'd love to see Jane shed some of that toughness, those curt expressions, and spend some real time with Alexa telling her what being a woman in love really is, and what being gay is. At 12, I think Alexa is at a good age to begin understanding these things. I never understood gayness until one night my wife and I were celebrating in a tiny, packed sushi restaurant. The tables were one upon the other, and you did share personal space with your fellow diners. We were sitting next to these two men, and after a while it was clear that they were romantically involved. A while later it hit me, these two guys were a couple, just like my wife and I were. They were in love, and they were celebrating an event ofmutual importance. Somehow, those
realizati!
ons changed gayness for me. I wonder if that kind of an epiphany can be translated into a comic strip????
Anyway, just my 2 cents!
Thanks for a great strip!
Cheers,
Dave
JaneJaneJaneJane,
Congrats on the rocking cartoon which I have discovered just right now
(due probably to my own stupidity and laziness, or something like that).
Love Jane and Sarah (as well as the rest of the cast), love them
together and separately, intertwined in a passionate embrace or doing
laundry, buying a house together or taking off on a wild, adventuresome
cross-country trip - love them almost as much as my favorite pair of
pajamas inherited from my brother. I must admit, however, that although
I worship both of them, I have a secret fondness for Sarah and in the
light of Jane's recent behavior I think that Sarah should have a fling
on the side. A short lived, amazingly passionate, beautiful thing with
an attractive and definitely charismatic NYU Metropolitan Studies
undergraduate? Couple of weeks and then can Jane, Sarah and Mia work
out their dilemma - c'mmon what dya say Paige? Have a heart, spring is
so far away from NYC...

Hmmmm, so you think we may have something in common in a small world, kind of way, huh? Well, nine happens to be my lucky number. I am tempted to cut off one finger and one toe to bring me more luck. My ICQ number starts with 9.
Woooooo, now here comes the really spooky part my birthday falls on the 9th day. My home phone number starts with 99, my address starts with 6/90. My work phone number starts with 99. Oh, I almost forgot, I have 9 chin hairs. NO I don't just kidding, I only have 4. I long to wear size 9 shoes. I guess my IQ would be around 9. I saw the movie "Nine and a half weeks," dang, how do you type the symbol for half?
I have 9 pens on my desk. My work address is 699. I am listening to the ninth track on a CD. Beethoven's ninth symphony .. heh heh heh .. just kidding, it is called "2 of a kind" by Vanessa Williams. Spooky huh?
Aren't you glad you emailed me?!

Some of the people the cops have chased have had names like "tank" "slick" "mo" ...
One time, the sheriff's dept had a warrant out for the wrong guy -- they put it out for the father, and they were looking for his son. so i get this call from some woman who says "oh, no, the cops want 'worm.' he's the one who shot my brother. they put the warrant out for his dad ... his name is 'fry guy.'"
I felt like saying "are you for real?"

Fan mail for Wendy Inc:
Dear Paige,
I liked the Wendy comic today and I have some solutions for your comic and my comic. First, I'd like to say that your comic should happen on Monday and Sunday. On Sunday I'd like to make the comic with you. As for art supplies, I'll use thre things Mike Luckovich uses...some kind of markers which we'll get at Binders very soon. As for you, you can use watercolor. The first Sunday when we make our comic together, I'd like to make one where Zappy teaches Wendy that if someone is taking a shower and you go to the sink and turn on the hot water...there will no longer be hot water in the shower. Sometimes I'll do the Monday comic with you. When you e-mail back to me, I'll tell you two more comics I want to make with you...I'll show you one right now. The comic is Simon in my cartoon version comes to your house. He asks Wendy to show him around the house. When Wendy shows him the science she does somehow, he becomes a member of her science club. One day they invent the
'ge! ometer,' with secret science powers. (This will be a Sunday comic and we'll take turns doing the backgrounds and the characters color.) Somehow they pull a lever they weren't supposed to pull and go into some wierd science adventure in time, which we can take turns deciding. Well, I loved sending you this e-mail. i hope you send me an e-mail back as quick as possible...I love you! See you in cartooning world-Love,
